HOW TO RAISE A SMART KID?

May 28, 2009 at 12:19 am

Motivation plays a special role in a child’s educational development and success. Indeed, the key to raising a smart kid is motivation. But be aware on the focus of your motivation. Studies showed that the focus should be on effort and not on superior intelligence or ability if you want to promote your child’s success in education and in life.

Praising your kids is the best way to show them that you support them and you are appreciating what they are doing. Instead of praising them because you believed that they are born gifted with intelligence or ability, try to focus your praise on their effort and persistence they had shown in order to reach their goals. Always show them that you appreciate their efforts.

The focus on their intelligence or ability will not actually help them reach their goals. It provides them the excuse not to try anymore since they already have the capacity. Likewise, if a child believed that he has reached the limit of his capacity, he would not anymore exert effort to improve himself. Now that you have the idea on what it takes to raise a smart kid, try not to focus your appreciation to your child’s intelligence or ability. Let him know that he could do anything and be successful if he will try. Mistakes are really part of the process, so don’t worry that they might make mistakes.

WHAT MAKES A CHILD GIFTED?

May 22, 2009 at 12:16 am

I often wonder why some kids tend to do physical activities better than others, how some kids catch up in lessons easily when others do not. Being able to do what others finds difficult to do is associated with more practice. After all, practice makes perfect.

Although, mother’s milk is proven to help the child’s brain development, the fact still holds that without somebody, say the immediate family,, teaching the child, they would know nothing. Remember that a child’s mind is like a tabula rasa or a clean sheet of paper. Everything written on the child’s mind is a result of their experiences. About 90 % of what the children learns come from what he or she experience rather than what he hears or see.

It is a must to understand that a child has no sense of what is right and what is wrong. What they perceive to be right are those that they see from their adults because they trust them in the first place.

Don’t hesitate to explain things on the child’s point of view. Don’t let their incapacity to understand be a hindrance for their capacity to learn. If they have to learn, they have to understand.

The answer to the question “Are there really child who are gifted?” is Yes! These are children gifted with people surrounding them patient enough to teach them.

WHY ARE WE FOND OF WHITER SKIN?

May 16, 2009 at 12:12 am

Not just the black people are so fond of whiter skin and having it. Even those who are born naturally white are spending lots of money just to keep the white complexion they. White complexion is always associated with youth. May be because a white complexion looks clean and clear.

Research showed that those women who has the nicest skin – white and young looking from birth to adulthood – are found on areas of the world on which only minimal amount of sun exposure is available. The sun had been identified as one of the skin’s worst enemy. A 30-minute exposure to the sun can greatly damage the skin. A 10-minute exposure alone is enough to make your skin discolored. Not only does the sun darken the skin bit it also can make your skin mature fast. Dryer skin is more prone to freckles and lines. Notice that the skin of children are more supple since they have not been exposed to sun that much not like adults.

This does not only happen to those people with darker complexion, even those who have naturally white skin could become darker if they had been exposed to the sun for long without protection.

NUTRITION – KEY TO GOOD HEALTH

May 9, 2009 at 12:08 am

Nutrition, indeed, is one key to good health. A good health is what we need to have a long and happy healthy life. That’s more than enough reason why we should start worrying about our health now especially about the foods that we eat. If we don’t watch what we eat, who else would? Here are tips for a proper nutrition:

  1. Go back to the basics,. As much as possible, eat only organic. Stay away from canned and processed foods that may contain toxic chemicals bad for your body.
  2. If possible, stay away from meat cooked fried. If you have to eat meat, cook it grilled or broiled. Frying adds fats on the meat, making it harmful to your heart.
  3. If you want to eat chicken, take out the skin. It contains more fats than the chicken’s meat.
  4. Eat lots of fish and vegetables rather than eating chicken or pork. Fish and vegetabl3e are healthier. If possible, eat meat only once a week.
  5. Fats are also found on salad dressings, butter, margarine, and sour cream. So if you want to have a sour cream on your potato or margarine on your bread, try to limit your consumption of these. In addition, you may choose a light butter or margarine that says its “trans-fat free”.
  6. Drink beverages that have no or low amount on calorie on it. But water is still the best we need to replenish the body’s lost fluids. We need to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day.
